Residents at Mossel Bay Retirement & Lifestyle Villages have the opportunity to become involved with a wide range of social and leisure activities. The service centre houses a comfortable lounge area while the village bus is used for regular excursions and shopping trips. Mossel Bay Retirement & Lifestyle Villages provide a friendly, caring and safe environment where you can enjoy life.

Basic Day Care Services

Basic Day Care is a no-charge-service for residents.

The Basic Day Care service, administered by the Frail Care Unit operator, comprises of the following and is delivered to residents that agree or require any of the following services:

  • Health Prevention and Promotion
  • Promotes active and healthy lifestyles through good living habits.
  • Encourage to maintain functional activities for daily living.
  • Support active involvement in the prevention of premature frailty and dependency, disability and illness.
  • Promote general wellness, physically, emotionally, socially and spiritually.
  • Promote ongoing information towards healthy living.
  • The above procedures are undertaken with the support and buy-in of residents and where applicable, residents’ committees.

SERVICES

Health Monitoring

All residents are initially assessed, at the Frail Care Unit on specified days.

Support Services

This service enables residents to function independently and to access assistance in a time of crisis like an illness or mishap:

  • Referral to other professional support services as and when needed.
  • Provide essential information in respect of a medical condition.
  • Respond to an emergency call from the resident or co-resident and undertake appropriate procedures.
  • Arrange transport, including ambulance service, to assist the resident to access the necessary professional help.
  • Dissemination of information.
  • Interaction with families.
  • Facilitate free weekly health clinics for all residents (example BP and BM monitoring).

Arrange access to certain additional Professional Services the cost of which shall be borne by the resident, i.e.:

  • Physiotherapy
  • Counseling (social, psychological, spiritual)
  • Occupational therapy
  • Bio-genetics
  • Additional Doctors’ consultation

Additional Health Care Services

A resident may request an additional service from the Frail Care Unit with the understanding that the respective resident shall be required to pay for the service. The following additional services are available:

  • Assistance with bed, bath or shower.
  • Assistance with getting dressed.
  • Assistance to get resident out of bed in the chair or putting back in bed.
  • Assistance with walking or wheelchair – pre-arranged according to a written schedule.
  • Making up of bed and replacement of linen.
  • Basic foot care (podiatry).
  • Assistance with feeding.
  • Any procedures prescribed by the resident’s physician i.e. treating infections, wound care, medication control, catheter insertion and care, additional vital signs monitoring.

Home Nursing Services

This service is meant for residents who require temporarily or for longer periods specific nursing care. Home Nursing Services are provided on the instruction of a resident and/or the relevant physician and is paid for by the resident.

The following procedures are applicable;

Any additional services of a specialized nature as prescribed by the resident’s physician, for example:

  • Treatment of wounds
  • Treatment of respiratory conditions
  • Catheter care
  • Stoma treatment
  • Blood sugar monitoring
  • Blood pressure monitoring
  • Urine testing
  • Other as may be prescribed

Frail Care Services

This level of care and support is meant for persons who are in need of constant supervision and support.

The services rendered in accordance with the Care Management Plan are:

  • All Basic and Additional services.
  • Minimum of 3 (three) meals per day, unless otherwise decided.
  • Daily cleaning of rooms.
  • Daily supervision.
  • Weekly health evaluation by the nursing sister.
  • Ongoing communication with the residents’ or Village physician.
  • Medication administration and control.

Daily assistance with activities of daily living as appropriate:

  • Bath/shower
  • Dressing
  • Grooming
  • Feeding
  • Walking
  • Foot care
  • Making of bed
  • Other as deemed necessary

Social and intellectual stimulation – reading, talking, music, etc.

Additional laundry service.

Nursing procedures as prescribed by the resident’s physician and/or required as part of the care plan.

Referral to other professional services.

Palliative procedures when required.
